Since its inception in 1971, the Vidya Shikshan Prasarak Mandal has been focused on education, social upliftment and on the removal of social ills. The result of three decades of work in this field has been the setting up of 45 quality educational institutions ranging from primary schools to a medical college.
The VSPM Trust was established in 1971, by the late Padmashree Kamlatai Hospet, a social worker who did extensive work in the area of women's upliftment. After her demise in 1981, the reigns of the Trust were passed on to Shri Ranjit Deshmukh, the current Chairman of the Trust. An eminent social and political leader of the region, Shri Deshmukh has expanded the mission of the trust over the past two decades. VSPM Trust is managed by prominent citizens representing various areas of social life.

The Institutions of the VSPM
Akshara High School in Kandivali, Mumbai, is one of the first initiatives of the Trust in the city and it continues to fulfill the objectives of imparting quality education and opportunities for excellence to all. The School has been managed by the VSPM Trust for three years and the seed funding has been provided for the basic infrastructure and the school building.VSPM Trust is spread across the state of Maharashtra and especially in and around Nagpur city. Its 45 institutions include a university; medical, dental and nursing colleges; technical institutions; balwadis, 5 primary schools, 15 middle and higher secondary schools; 4 Junior colleges, a training college for teachers, 8 senior colleges and a management institute. The trust also runs 2 hospitals, including a large multi-specialty hospital. Over 100,000 students have benefited from the various institutions of the Trust and more than 15,000 students are enrolled every academic year.
AKSHARA FOUNDATION OF ARTS & LEARNING (AFAL)
Akshara High School will now be managed by the Akshara Foundation of Arts & Learning (AFAL), a public trust established with the aim of integrating education and the arts. Akshara is the first project of the AFAL and this shall be followed by varied projects ranging from development of the arts, workshops, publications, films, research and so on.The VSPM Trust and the AFAL Trust are both registered under societies Registration Act 1860 and also under Bombay Public Trust Act 1950.
OUR AIMS
- The education imparted aims at promoting the growth and integration of all facets of the child's personality, in an ambience of Indian culture, by providing quality education and opportunities for excellence to all.
- To enable students to acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes through an activity and inquiry-based learning programme.
- To learn to respect cultural diversity and secular values. To sensitise children to appreciate our cultural heritage, with a special emphasis on the culture of the community in and around the school.
- To develop concern for the needs of others and compassion towards fellow humans.
- To create awareness of the environment and their responsibility to conserve it.
